Licorice is a woody stemmed perennial growing to t height of 6 feet, with dark leaves and cream to mauve flowers.
Growing wild in southeastern Europe and southwestern Asia, licorice is now extensively cultivated. It is propagated by dividing the roots in spring. The root of 3 - 4 year old plants is unearthed in late autumn.
