Hops are tall climbing perennials growing to a height of 22 feet. Hop plants are either male or female. Indigenous to Europe and Asia, hops flourish there on dumps and along roadsides. They are grown commercially throughout northern Europe. Flowers of the female plant (strobiles) are picked in early autumn and dried at a low temperature.
