A bayberry is a familiar shrub found along the shores of New England. This plant is valued primarily for the wax from berries. Harder and more brittle than beeswax, the wax is not only used for candles but is one of the main ingredients in the hair tonic called Bay Rum. Both bayberry wax and dried bayberry bark are used medicinally.
