Glucosamine

What is Glucosamine?

Glucosamine is made from the sugar combination. The first part of the name glucose is derived from the word glucose and the second one is amine, which is a derivative of ammonia containing nitrogen and hydrogen atoms. Super glucosamine is found largely in cartilage and plays a key role in its health and resiliency. As we get older, we lose some of the glucosamine and other substances in cartilage. This can lead to thinning of cartilage and the onset and progression of discomfort of weight bearing Joints. It is very important to note that there are lots of important substances within cartilage and glucosamine ingestion. Clinical studies have shown that glucosamine is more likely to be effective when taken with other nutrients such as MSM and chondroitin.

Glucosamine Sulfate

Glucosamine Sulfate is a naturally occurring amino sugar. Amino sugars are key constituents of larger compounds called glycosaminoglycans and glycoprotein's, which allow cells in tissues to hold together. They are necessary for the construction and maintenance of virtually all connective tissue and lubricating fluids in the body - tendons, ligaments, cartilage, bone matrix, skin, joint fluid, intestinal lining, and mucous membranes. Glucosamine sulfate is complexes with potassium chloride to enhance stability.

Glucosamine Chondroitin

Glucosamine Chondroitin provides important building blocks for healthy joints and connective tissues. Glucosamine Chondroitin, an amino sugar, is an essential structural component of glycosaminoglycans, large linear molecules that enhance to lubricate joints , nourish cartilage and connective tissue, and assist in wound healing. Manganese is involved in the synthesis of collagen, and chondroitin sulfate lends additional structural support via its high degree of interaction with collagen fibers. Molybdenum aids in complete metabolism of glucosamine and chondroitin.

Recommendations

Glucosamine is a supplement that I always recommend people use for a minimum of 6 weeks before deciding that it is not effective for them. What I hear most often from people is that they did not realize how enhance it was until they stopped taking it.

In addition, since over the counter supplements are not regulated the way “medications” are, it is possible you may need to try more than one brand to find one that works for you. We advise individuals to consult with their doctor before taking any supplements. It is important that you tell your prescribe or any other healthcare professional who may be treating you that you are taking a product which contains glucosamine.

When using dietary supplements, keep in mind the following:

Like conventional a substance used in managing discomforts, dietary supplements may cause side effects, trigger allergic reactions, or interact with prescription and nonprescription medications or other supplements you might be taking. A side effect or interaction with another medication or supplement may make other health conditions worse.

Dietary supplements may not be standardized in their manufacturing. Because of this, how well they work or any side effects they cause may differ among brands or even within different lots of one brand. The form you buy in health food or grocery stores may not be the same as the form used in research.

Other than in vitamins and minerals, the long-term effects of most dietary supplements are not known.
